21 questions you need to ask when joining a golf club
1. Who owns the Club?
Blue is the areas longest established Golf Course, incorporated in 1965 as a not-for-profit corporation. The Club is owned by the members.
2. Do I have a vote in the affairs of the Club?
Yes! As an adult member, you have a vote at all Meetings of the Membership.
3. What is the overall Debt of the Club?
Blue is amongst the most financially sound Golf Club in the area. Details upon request!
4. Does the Club have a history or a policy of assessing the members?
No! Since 1965 Blue has never assessed the membership for any improvement.
Historically, the Club has addressed projects through cash flow or mortgage.
5. Are there any major projects or acquisitions planned for the Club?
The Board have been in discussions with the surrounding property owners with the intent of trying to acquire additional land at some time in the future for expansion purposes.
6. How are dues decided annually?
Dues are decided annually by the Board of Directors upon completion of the Operating and Capital Budgets.
7. What are the terms for paying annual dues?
Dues are invoiced to the members each December. Payment of dues may be made in three equal installments Feb. 1st, Mar. 1st and Apr. 1st with no interest charged.
8. What are the terms for paying Initiation?
Applicants may choose from a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 year payment plan. Initiation payments are invoiced each March with payment required by April 1st.
9. Is there a monthly Bar bill or Food bill?
No! Blue concessions out the Food and Beverage service.
10. Is the course walkable or do I have to take a cart?
One of the main reasons why applicants join the Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club is because the course is extremely walkable. The layout also features the added benefit of both nines returning to the Clubhouse. Those who wish to rent a cart may do so for 9 or 18 holes on a daily basis, or through our Season Pass program.
11. Is there a practice facility and where is it located?
Blue operates 10 acres of land south of the property and adjacent to the course. The 10 acres features a well maintained practice facility for members, their guests and the general public. In addition, next to the Clubhouse is a practice putting green, chipping area and warm up driving cages. The use of all Club practice facilities is included in your annual dues.
12. What programs are offered for Ladies, Men, Juniors and socially?
The Club features organized programs throughout the season through our Men`s Section, Men`s Senior League, Ladies` Section, Junior Section and Social Committee. All activities are noted on our Calendar of Events and promoted to the membership through our website, newsletter and email.
13. How quickly do new members get integrated into the Golf Club?
Blue has an excellent reputation for its warm and friendly membership. New members are invited and encouraged to participate in our Section programs and social events.
14. How many members are there in the Club and what is the projected capacity?
Annually, Blue operates at an active membership size sufficient to accommodate the operating needs and budget of the Club. Historically, new members have been invited to join on an annual basis.
15. How are tee times booked?
At Blue members may book tee times three days in advance. Once the tee times are posted, members may monitor each day`s tee sheet on our website. Changes may be made by calling our Pro Shop or in person.
16. What is the history of our Management Team?
Blue is extremely proud of our Management Team. Jim Malley has been in the golf business for over 30 years and has been the General Manager of the Club since 1991. Rob Weiss has been Blue`s Head Professional since 1992. Assistant Professional, Graham Perry became a C.P.G.A. Professional in 1990 and has been with the Club since that year. Our Course Superintendent, Don Campbell became part of our Management Team in 2001 and has been in course maintenance and construction since 1986. Jill FitzPatrick has been our Office/ Accounting Manager since 2001 and brings over 20 years of management experience to our Administration Office. Their leadership and dedication has played an integral roll in the development of our Club.
17. What lesson programs does the Club offer?
A) Members may request individual lesson programs with our Professional staff or,
B) Members may participate in our clinics organized through our Sections. Juniors are encouraged to participate in our very popular Monday morning clinic and golf program offered through the months of July and August.
18. How does the Club obtain it`s irrigation water?
Blue draws its water from the mouth of Georgian Bay to our holding pond on the 12th Hole. The Club features a state of the art Toro Site Pro double row irrigation system which is well renowned for its efficient method of providing maximum water coverage on the course.
19. Does the water permit allow the Club to draw sufficient water nightly to deal with drought?
Yes! Our water permit with the Ministry allows the Club to draw and discharge water on a nightly basis. The number of gallons has proved be more than sufficient to continue to provide excellent turf during the hot, dry conditions experienced in the last few years.
20. Does the Club have Town drinking water stations, first aid stations and emergency radios on the course?
The health and safety of our members and guests is a high priority at the Blue Mountain Golf and Country Club. During the installation of the double row irrigation system in 2003, the Club installed 6 Town water drinking fountains and 6 emergency radios locations on the course. The emergency radios are connected directly to the Pro Shop. There are First Aid stations located in each of the 3 rain shelters. The Club also has a defibrillator on site and a number of staff in each department trained to address emergency situations.
21. Is the Club conveniently located to both Collingwood and Blue Mountain?
Blue`s picturesque layout, set between beautiful vistas of Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment is located on Collingwood`s 10th Line, a short drive between both Collingwood and the Blue Mountains.
